About Harris County Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity
The Harris County Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity (DEEO) launched in 2021. Our mission is to eliminate disparities and disinvestments by creating innovative, equitable opportunities for the county’s diverse community of businesses and individuals, leading to inclusive, accessible, and shared prosperity for all.
2019
Commissioners Court approved the creation of the DEEO
TIP Strategies was retained to lead the preliminary establishment of the department
2020
Meetings with more than 100 stakeholders to identify priorities, opportunities, and challenges.
Established a preliminary department structure and budget.
2021
New executive director appointed.
Department build-out: hiring a leadership team, beginning a listening tour, and setting up new programs
