How do you calculate your company’s burn rate? Gross Burn = Total Monthly Cash Expenses. Net Burn = Total Monthly Cash Sales – Total Monthly Cash Expenses. Implied Runway = Cash Balance ÷ Burn Rate. You will need to review a couple of months to get the average to determine your burn rate.

How do you get a CAGE number? You have to have your company registered in SAM.gov and they will assign you a CAGE number. The process can take a while, so be patient!

What if you are just starting and have not done any business with others? Where do you get references? You can use a reference for prior work as long as you are clear about that when you provide the reference.

Can businesses based in other states also bid on Harris County bids? You do not have to be located in Harris County to do work with Harris County.

When requesting records of previous bids (open records request), do you receive those electronically? Yes. When you submit an open records request, you will receive them electronically. If you want a printed version, you will be charged per page of the document. We suggest you request them electronically to save money.

If you are a new vendor to government contracting or a new business, how could you show your track record? If you have past experience (from previous employers or jobs) you can use that experience on your resume and past performance sheets. Clearly indicate it was a previous employer or previous business.
