CHARTING A COURSE IN INCLUSIVE SOURCING & GROWTH
Opportunity U is a comprehensive training program designed to support and assist local S/MWBE vendors. This initiative helps position these businesses to better compete for and participate in Port Houston procurements, potentially grow to become preferred contractors, and leverage other opportunities outside of Port Houston. Eligibility Requirements:
Applicant must be the primary owner or co-owner and key decision maker of a business that meets the following criteria:
1. Currently in business for a minimum of 2 years
2. Possess the potential and desire to grow and do business with Port Houston
3. Commit to attend 9 of 10 sessions
4. S/MWBE certifying agencies:
- City of Houston (SBE, MBE, & WBE)
- METRO (SBE)
- Small Business Administration 8(a) (SBE)
- Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (HUB Certification)
- Texas Department of Transportation (SBE)
- Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (MBE)
- National Minority Supplier Development Council (MBE)
- South Central Regional Certification Agency (SBE)
- Women’s Business Alliance (WBE)
- Women’s Business Enterprise National Council & Affiliates (WBE)

Please note: Opportunity U is specialized training exclusively available to S/MWBEs actively enrolled in Port Houston’s Inclusive Sourcing Program. However, enrolling in the Inclusive Sourcing Program does not guarantee automatic placement into Opportunity U. We’re continuously accepting applications for our upcoming cohorts, apply today! Session Schedule
Opportunity U will be held in person on Thursdays from 1:30 pm-4:30 pm at the University of Houston Small Business Development Center facilities located at 1455 West Loop South, Suite 900.
